But before we left, we took a long weekend to relax and recharge in Cape San Blas.

Cancer diagnosis is always a difficult event to grapple with. In the case of my father, his diagnosis was especially hard as it came unexpectedly and relatively suddenly. Before his health rapidly deteriorated, we made the decision to move back home so we could be closer to him and support him through his treatment.

It was during this time that we planned a trip to Cape San Blas. It was a place I had always wanted to go, and we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to spend some time together before we started packing. We camped  right on the water and spent our days paddle boarding, exploring the area, and catching butterflies.

Inspired by the Buddhist tradition of prayer flags, we decided to create our own version as a family project. We dyed the squares of fabric in the traditional order of color, and drew pictures of animals we loved. Blue, white, red, green, and yellow. It was a beautiful and healing experience, and something we will always remember fondly.[/vc_column_text][us_text text=”SAN BLAS Flags Supplies” tag=”h5″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.5rem%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”](6 hr project)[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner columns_type=”” columns_reverse=”” ignore_columns_stacking=”” el_class=”col-mb-0″][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Fabric[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Tye-dye[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”](OR purchase colored flags)[/us_iconbox][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Stencils[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Fabric markers[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Twine[/us_iconbox][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][us_text text=”Step-By-Step Instructions” tag=”h5″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Start with dying the flags.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Make sure you have somewhere to dry your freshly dyed flags.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Find a stencil your child can trace.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Use a fabric pen so the color won’t fade.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Cut two small holes in the top corners of the fabric.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Thread the flags onto a piece of twine and hang![/us_iconbox][us_separator size=”small”][us_grid post_type=”attachment” images=”165,167,168,171,173,176,174,166,178″ pagination=”infinite” items_layout=”gallery_with_titles_below” load_animation=”afb” columns=”3″ el_class=”img-gallery”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

  2. Patterned fabrics. Patterned fabrics are another popular choice for hotel draperies. They add visual interest and can help tie the different elements of the room together.
  3. Solid colors. Solid colors are a classic choice for hotel draperies. They create a sophisticated look and coordinate with other elements in the room.
  4. Embellishments. Embellishments such as tassels, fringe, and beads can add a touch of luxury to hotel draperies. They also help to create a more formal look.
  5. Customization. Customization is one of the latest trends in hotel drapery. Many hotels are now offering custom drapery options so that guests can choose the perfect look for their room.

[/vc_column_text][us_separator size=”small”][us_text text=”Drapery trends for eco-retreats” tag=”h3″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22afb%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22fade%22%7D%7D”]Luxury eco-retreats are all about creating a sense of relaxation and serenity, while also being environmentally conscious. Drapery can play a big role in creating this atmosphere. For eco-retreats, natural materials are key. Look for organic cotton, linen, or hemp drapery panels. These materials aren’t only environmentally friendly, but also have a natural look and feel that’ll help create a serene space. [INSERT SOURCE]

Another important factor to consider for eco-retreats is using color. Soft, muted colors are perfect for creating a calming atmosphere. Drape your windows in light blues, greens, or even pale yellows. If you want to add a pop of color, go for a natural hue like terracotta or sage.

Texture is also important for creating an inviting space. Choose drapery panels with a little bit of texture, like those made of linen or hemp. You can also add interest with patterned or printed panels. Just make sure the patterns are subdued and not too busy.

Finally, remember that drapery can control light and privacy. If you want to let in natural light but maintain privacy, choose sheer panels. If you need to block out light completely, opt for opaque drapery. Blackout drapery is also a good option for eco-retreats, as it can help reduce energy consumption.[/vc_column_text][us_separator size=”small”][us_text text=”Drapery trends for tropical modern homes” tag=”h3″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22afb%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22fade%22%7D%7D”]Tropical modernism is a style that brings the outdoors in, with a focus on natural materials, simplicity, and a laid-back vibe. For drapery in a tropical modern home, look for light, airy fabrics in natural hues. Sheer panels are a good choice to allow in plenty of natural light, while still providing privacy. Bamboo or rattan blinds are also a popular window treatment in tropical modern homes. For color, think of nature – soothing greens, sandy taupes, and sea blues are all good choices. For a final touch, add some greenery with a potted plant or two.

The right drapery can help you create the perfect indoor-outdoor living space. It can also help you control the amount of light and heat that enters your home. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at the latest trends in tropical modern drapery. We’ll give you some tips on how to design simple drapery for tropical environments.[/vc_column_text][us_separator size=”small”][us_separator size=”small”][us_text text=”Tropical modern architecture” tag=”h3″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22afb%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22fade%22%7D%7D”]Tropical modern architecture is a style that blends traditional tropical architecture with modern elements. The style is characterized by an emphasis on light, airy spaces, and a connection to the outdoors. Tropical modern architecture first gained popularity in the 1920s and 1930s, with the work of architect P.L. Covarrubias. It experienced a resurgence in the 1950s and 1960s, with the work of architect Charles Moore. Today, tropical modern architecture is enjoying another moment in the spotlight. Thanks to its clean lines and casual elegance, the style is well-suited to contemporary life. [INSERT IMAGE]

If you’re lucky enough to live in a tropical climate, you may be wondering how you can incorporate tropical modern elements into your home. One way is to incorporate outdoor living spaces. Another is to use large windows to bring in natural light and create a connection to the outdoors. Custom drapery is another great way to add a touch of tropical modern style to your home. When selecting drapery for a tropical modern home, it’s important to choose fabrics that are light and airy. Natural fibers like linen and cotton are a good choice. If you want something with a bit more personality, consider a patterned or brightly colored fabric.[/vc_column_text][us_separator size=”small”][us_text text=”Outdoor drapery” tag=”h3″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22afb%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22fade%22%7D%7D”]When it comes to outdoor drapery, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the fabric you choose should be able to withstand the elements. Sunbrella fabrics are a great option for outdoor drapery because they are fade-resistant and mold- and mildew-resistant. Another thing to consider is the weight of the fabric. Heavier fabrics will hold up better in windy conditions, while lighter fabrics will be more prone to blowing around. [INSERT IMAGE]

Finally, you’ll want to make sure the drapery attaches securely to the structure. Outdoor drapery is subject to high winds, so it’s important to use appropriate hardware and to make sure the drapery is properly secured.[/vc_column_text][us_separator size=”small”][us_text text=”Custom drapery for large windows” tag=”h3″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22afb%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22animation-name%22%3A%22fade%22%7D%7D”]Custom drapery is a great way to add a personal touch to your tropical modern home. Large windows are one of the signature features of this style of architecture. So it’s important to choose drapery that’ll complement your space and let in the perfect amount of light.

There are a few things to remember when choosing custom drapery for large windows. First, consider the fabric. Natural fibers like linen and cotton are a great choice for tropical climates. They’re breathable and will help keep your home cool. Second, think about the color. Light colors will reflect heat, while dark colors will absorb it. Choose a color that’ll compliment your space and help you achieve the look you’re going for. [INSERT IMAGE]

Finally, consider the style of drapery. Sheer, flowing fabrics are a popular choice for tropical modern homes. They look beautiful and add a touch of elegance to any space. But don’t forget about function! Make sure to choose a fabric that’ll block out the sun when you need it.

With these tips in mind, you’re sure to find the perfect custom drapery for your tropical modern home.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Curtain Story #1

It’s where we rest, grow, and find stability in times of change and uncertainty.

Using furniture, art, and drapery – your home tells a story.

In my first “curtain story” titled “Holidays in Trinidad” – I share Krisha’s story. Her story connects me to a beautiful, tranquil, tropical place – her home in Trinidad – and shares the notion that no matter where we are from – what has happened to us – and what our goals are in life – curtains – aren’t just fabric.

Today Krisha lives in her new home – and is living the chapter in her life as an artist and professor. She loves her new home. Bookshelves of Japanese artifacts lean on her office wall. Her guest room features pillows painted with large bright tropical flowers, but the windows in her house? They are naked. She doesn’t want to get it wrong.[/vc_column_text][us_text text=”Picture” tag=”h5″][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”]A house on stilts. A house on stilts – with a large yard full of fruit trees. With hibiscus – roses, coconut trees, 10 mango trees, a cashew tree, starfruit, avocado, and lime in the yard – with an abundance of flowers, herbs, and spices. The house on stilts is built with tilapia mud straw – that is as hard as concrete – with hardwood floors and huge demerara windows. You know – those wood windows that open from the bottom, with louvers you can open. There are no screens. Everything has a job. Cats take care of the rodents, and geckos and lizards take care of the spiders.

Inside the texture of the mud walls is smooth – with light white curtains blowing in the breeze coming in through one window, across the room, and out through the open demerara windows.

This is how Krisha described her childhood home. Born in New York City, and raised by her grandparents in Trinidad – Krisha fondly shared her memories of home. She remembers reverent celebrations when she was young – celebrations on the major holidays – Christmas – Easter – New Year’s. Krisha would help wax the floors, paint the house, and change the curtains.

The curtains. They were very important. Each holiday her grandmother would change the curtains, change the linens, wash, and put them away clean. She remembers journeys into town with her grandmother to find fabric and a local seamstress. It was a ton of work – and if you were shopping for fabric in November – well – you were too late.

Now living in Winston-Salem, Krisha has moved into a home of her own. She admits – finding curtains for her home hasn’t been easy. She doesn’t want to have a housewarming party until her windows have curtains. So guess what – her Aunts from Trinidad – sent her a huge bag of curtains. But the lightweight fabric from Trinidad – while beautiful – isn’t her style.[/vc_column_text][us_text text=”Home as a symbol” tag=”h5″][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”]After living in her house for 3 years – Krisha wants her home to reflect where she is in life.

Thinking of her Trinidad roots inspires Krisha. But it is the summers she spent in New York City – her years of dancing on the big city stage – the Japanese kimonos and tea ceremonies that she loves – they inspire her also.

It is every morning that she wakes up with gratitude and joy that she feels – after putting in the work to overcome divorce, depression, and adversity. Of diving and falling – and getting back up again.

Krisha’s home is a symbol in every way. A symbol of taking her power back.[/vc_column_text][us_text text=”Unsolicited advice” tag=”h5″][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”]Where we live

How we live

How we design our homes – can all have an impact on how we feel.

I think there are a rare few who can look at a room and picture exactly what furniture, art, and rugs to buy. But if you are like me – designing a space to live in takes time – it’s the journey of finding a table or a chair here and there that is inspiring to me. Drapery – though – that’s the toughest.

So – having spent a lot of time thinking about drapery – and how it can make you feel – here’s my advice to anyone afraid to make the wrong decision about drapery.

Allow yourself to get it wrong.[/vc_column_text][us_text text=”StitchBig” tag=”h5″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.5rem%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”]Make a statement. It’s your home.

Get creative this summer with Camp DIY!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Looking for something fun and creative to do with your kids this summer? Why not try Camp DIY? With a little bit of imagination and some recycled materials, you can create all sorts of fun projects that the whole family will enjoy.

In this blog post, we’ll show you how to make a simple cardboard robot. All you need is some cardboard, a few basic supplies, and some creativity. So gather up your materials and let’s get started!

Building a robot with cardboard

Building a robot out of cardboard is a great way to recycle materials and have fun at the same time. Plus, it’s a perfect activity for a summer camp. Here are the materials you’ll need to get started:

– Cardboard box- Scissors- Tape- Markers or paint- Construction paper- Glue- String

Once you have all of your materials, you can start building your robot. Begin by cutting out a head, body, and arms from your cardboard box. You can make your robot as big or small as you like. Then, use your markers or paint to decorate your robot. Get creative!

Next, cut out some felt or construction paper to make eyes, a mouth, and any other features you want your robot to have. Glue these onto your robot’s head.

Finally, use string to attach the arms to the body. Now your robot is complete!

Cardboard robot materials
You will need the following materials to make your cardboard robot:

– 1 large piece of cardboard- 1 small piece of cardboard- 1 toilet paper roll- 1 paper towel roll- 2 plastic soda bottles- 4 bottle caps- 2 pipe cleaners- 1 piece of string- 1 piece of duct tape- 1 marker- 1 pair of scissors

Start by cutting your large piece of cardboard into two pieces. One piece will be the body of your robot and the other piece will be the robot’s head. Cut the small piece of cardboard into two pieces as well. These will be the robot’s arms.

To make the robot’s head, cut the top off of one of the plastic soda bottles. Cut the bottom off of the other plastic soda bottle. These will be the robot’s eyes. Glue the bottle tops to the small piece of cardboard. Glue the bottle bottoms to the large piece of cardboard.

Next, cut the toilet paper roll in half. These will be the robot’s legs. Glue the toilet paper rolls to the large piece of cardboard.

Cut the paper towel roll in half. These will be the robot’s arms. Glue the paper towel rolls to the small piece of cardboard.

Attach the small piece of cardboard to the large piece of cardboard. This will be the robot’s torso.

Finally, decorate your robot with the markers. Be sure to give your robot a name!

Making a cardboard robot instructions
Cut two circles out of cardboard. These will be the robot’s eyes.

Cut a curved rectangle out of cardboard. This will be the robot’s mouth.

Cut two long rectangles out of cardboard. These will be the robot’s arms.

Cut two smaller rectangles out of cardboard. These will be the robot’s hands.

Assemble the robot’s head by attaching the eyes and mouth to one of the circles.

Attach the arms to the other circle.

Attach the hands to the ends of the arms.

Your robot is now complete![/vc_column_text][us_post_title][us_grid post_type=”attachment” images=”16,14,15″ orderby=”post__in” items_quantity=”” items_layout=”gallery_with_titles_below” columns=”3″ items_gap=”1rem” overriding_link=”popup_post_image” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%222rem%22%7D%7D” el_class=”img-gallery”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

How to Keep Kids Entertained While Glamping

[vc_row][vc_column][us_post_title][us_image image=”39″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”]If you’re looking for a way to keep your kids entertained while glamping, look no further than the Keowee bag. This simple sewing project is perfect for collecting rocks, sticks, and other treasures. And best of all, it’s something that your kids can enjoy trip after trip.

It’s fun to collect stuff in a Keowee bag

Lake Keowee was our first camping trip as a family with a pop-up trailer. I combined our kids’ interest in sewing with their need to collect things. I packed the felt and yarn I had on hand (with a few needles and glue). I asked the kids to think about what color and design they wanted their bag to have.

The kids were excited to get started on their bags, and they came up with some great designs. I helped them cut out the felt and sew the bags together. They were so proud of their finished products, and they loved being able to collect rocks, sticks, and other treasures on our hikes.

This was a great activity for keeping the kids entertained while we were camping. It was also a great way to get them involved in the trip and to help them create some lasting memories.

Glamping with kids

Glamping with kids is all about enjoying the great outdoors while also being able to relax and enjoy some creature comforts. A typical day glamping with kids might involve lounging in the water, playing games on the lawn, going on short hikes, and then making s’mores at sunset.

One of the best things about glamping with kids is that it can help them to unplug from technology and connect with nature. This can be a great opportunity for them to get some exercise and fresh air, and to explore their creativity. If you bring along some crafting supplies, you can even encourage them to make something special to take home with them.

Being crafty ourselves with nothing but time at the campsite, we love to design. Here’s what can happen with a little felt, yarn, and glue. With a little imagination, you can create just about anything. And what could be more handsome than a little man with a needle in his hand? Now each one has a custom-designed, hand-made satchel for collecting. Night Lights and Glowing Lanterns: A Fun Camping Craft for Kids

[vc_row el_class=”check-listing”][vc_column][us_post_title][us_image image=”24″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221.5rem%22%7D%7D”]Looking for an easy and fun camping craft for kids? Look no further than these night lights and glowing lanterns! Made with just a few simple materials, these lanterns will provide hours of fun and entertainment for your little ones. Lake Hartwell is one of our favorite lakes to camp on. We can sleep 10 feet from the water and paddle our canoe across to explore the island of rock formations and goose feathers. Nights at the campsite called for night lights. So we decided to make our own.

Lake Hartwell

Lake Hartwell is one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. It’s located in the Appalachian Mountains and is a popular destination for camping, fishing, and hiking. The lake is huge, with over 930 miles of shoreline, and is one of the most popular camping spots in the US.

We love camping at Lake Hartwell because we can sleep right next to the water. We often paddle our canoe across to explore the island of rock formations and goose feathers. The nights can be very dark, so we decided to make our own night lights.

I’m always so amazed when these boys are excited to get crafty. These glamping kid lanterns solved the ongoing dispute over who got the giant lantern. We love the dark so we can see the stars, but when it’s too dark – somehow every noise could be that of a monster.

This kid-inspired design was started in the morning and finished in the afternoon after the glue dried. The boys really couldn’t wait to get their lanterns ready for nighttime. It took us the entire sunset to get the right picture that captured the happiness these lanterns brought the boys.

As the sun began to set, we placed our lanterns around the campsite. And they looked beautiful! The glowing light from the lanterns filled the campsite with a warm, welcoming light.
As we sat around the campfire, we talked and laughed. And the lanterns added just the right touch of magic to the evening.[/vc_column_text][us_text text=”HARTWELL Lantern Supplies” tag=”h5″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.5rem%22%7D%7D”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-bottom%22%3A%221rem%22%7D%7D”](4-hour project)[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner columns_type=”” columns_reverse=”” ignore_columns_stacking=”” el_class=”col-mb-0″][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Tissue paper[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Glue[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Scissors[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Decorative tape[/us_iconbox][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Clear plastic container[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Sponge brushes[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Glow sticks[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”fal|check-circle” size=”1.2rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Twine[/us_iconbox][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][us_text text=”Step-By-Step Instructions” tag=”h5″ css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-top%22%3A%221rem%22%7D%7D”][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Let the kids cut up the tissue paper any way they want.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]And make sure the wind doesn’t blow it away by putting the cut pieces in the jar.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Use the brushes to paint the paper on the lantern with glue.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Use glue that’s washable and not harmful to the skin.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Cut the ribbon as long as you like.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]After the glue has dried (1hr or so), add the ribbons and decorate your lantern with tape.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Use twine or a thin rope to make a handle.[/us_iconbox][us_iconbox icon=”far|chevron-right” size=”1rem” iconpos=”left” alignment=”none” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22margin-left%22%3A%220%22%2C%22margin-bottom%22%3A%220.8rem%22%2C%22margin-right%22%3A%22auto%22%7D%7D”]Don’t forget the glow sticks. Design Ideas

Start with neutral color

Ready to try something new for your home? Here is one suggestion for getting started with drapery. The single-layer linen curtains from Ikea are easy on the budget and come ready to hang and hem. The neutral color allows them to blend into the background, yet give you the finished look for a sense of calm. Letting in just enough light, and protecting your privacy – these curtains are a must if you are just getting started with drapery on your windows.

IKEA – RITVA Curtains
These curtains lower the general light level and provide privacy from people walking by. They are easy to install. And can be hemmed to any length you need by hand, iron on hem tape, or sewing machine.

Big idea: Want a custom look? Add ribbon or another fabric, along the hem or a side edge, for a custom look.
